Comparing Cordless Vacuums – You get what you pay for! (Simplicity S65 Cordless Vacuum – I love it)

I set out to do some research on cordless vacuums because my Shark bit the dust two weeks ago after a little over a year of use.  I have other vacuums in our house but I really like the cordless model for the fast clean ups.  I used the cordless model every day so when the Shark bit the dust I really started to miss having it.  I wasn’t convinced that another Shark was the way to go as they have really escalated in price and it only lasted me a little over a year so I decided to look at other options before I made my purchase.

I wanted to test a cheap no-name brand and a more expensive well known brand to see if the extra money was really worth spending.  It took a few weeks of doing the research and reading customer reviews but I settled on two I felt would make for a great comparison.

The first was the cheaper version that I purchased from Amazon – no brand name but the reviews were all decent and for only $89.00 (it was a one day special with a discount code – now it is regular price of $269.00) I felt it was worth a try for $89.00.  I purchased it with my Prime Membership so it arrived in a few days.

NOTE – this vacuum is no longer available through Prime, it is coming directly from China now.

SECONDLY – Amazon put a lock on the reviews for “suspicious” activity.  It said they had to confirm the validity of the reviews that were left for this product.  However, I do see that the majority of the reviews were removed and only three remain on the product now.

I took it out of the box, took a quick looks at the “quick start guide” and charged up the battery.  The first thing I noticed was it was not meant for carpets even though it states in the description that it can be used for carpets.  Sorry but it didn’t pick up a thing off my carpets.  It just doesn’t seem to have the power needed to vacuum carpets.

It wasn’t bad for bare floors, which is actually what I wanted it, for but as far as having “super powerful suction” it is not the case.

It comes with several attachments and converts easily into a hand held vacuum which could come in handy when cleaning up messes off your furniture or your car.

It’s lightweight (says 3.4 lbs) and easy to take around the house but the absence of a little weight behind it actually doesn’t help the performance.  I felt like I was vacuuming with a child’s toy instead of a vacuum.  It flopped around way too much, wouldn’t stay firm on the floor so I had to keep repositioning it.

The battery is supposed to last up to 50 minutes of run time, nope, I got about 20 minutes max.

I was very disappointed in the performance of this model proving the old saying “You get what you pay for!”

Unfortunately for Amazon this will be going back!  However a plug for Amazon as they have a great 30-day return policy regardless of the reason for the return.

The next vacuum I tested was supplied to me by the Simplicity company at a request from me to review their product.  I was so impressed with the features and the reviews it has gotten that I just had to have one.  Many thanks to the Simplicity company for allowing me the opportunity to test and review their product.

Most people associate the name “Simplicity” with sewing machines as did I until recently when I found out they manufacturer vacuum cleaners. I actually own a Simplicity monogramming machine and I love it.  Purchased it many years ago from a shopping channel and have gotten many years of pleasure out of using it.

Simplicity makes a line of vacuum cleaners from canister and uprights to cordless stick vacuum cleaners all with 5 star ratings from customers on their website.

The model I was sent to review is the Simplicity Model S65.

While many other cordless vacuums sell an entirely different more expensive model for “pet hair” the Simplicity Model S65 includes the pet turbo brush with the other attachments for this vacuum.  No need to upgrade to a more expensive model just to get the ability to remove pet hair.

The Simplicity S65 gives you the option to charge and store the vacuum two ways, either with a wall mount or the storage station.  The storage station keeps all your tools and attachments in one place for easy access.  No more rummaging through the closet to find the attachment you need.

The Simplicity S65 comes with the following attachments (see me feature them in my video):

  • Carpet/Bare floor nozzle with nylon brushes and LED lights
  • Bare floor soft nozzle
  • Pet tool turbo brush
  • Angle adapter
  • Combination crevice tool/dusting brush with nylon bristles
  • Upholstery tool

I’ve prepared this video so you can see the amazing features and the superior performance of the S65 by Simplicity.

So if you are looking for a gift for a bride-to-be or a someone on your Holiday list be sure to check out the entire line of Simplicity vacuums.

  1. Wow! What an awesome vacuum. I can’t wait till mine breaks so I can get this one. Thanks for the demo it really brought the features to life. I always need to see things in action to really understand the way it works and know if I want to buy it.

  2. I have actually been looking into cordless vacuums for our home. We have a German Shepherd and he sheds a lot! It would make it so much easier to do a quick run through without hauling out our big beast of a vacuum. Thank you for your easy demonstration that really is appealing how easily it changes components. Well done!

  3. My roommate and I went 1/2’s on a Cordless Dyson a few years back. It’s a great machine but there are a few things that really IRK me about it. For starters it has a VERY small collection bin and I have one dog (Black Lab) who sheds enough in one day to fill the bin several times over (and I’m just talking about vacuuming one 6’x 8′ area rug in a Tiny Living room). Secondly, the house is less than 1500 sq feet and the battery dies before I can finish the whole house. It has a wall mount unit which I use but for some reason they didn’t make enough holders for all the attachments it comes with (GRRRR!!!) Lastly, the filter is reusable but I find myself having to clean it OFTEN as it will stop the motor from running if I don’t.

After watching this video I am curious to compare the two. The Dyson I have does Not have two floor beater brushes (hard floor and carpet), nor does it have a 90 degree angle attachment which I could seriously use when vacuuming hard to reach corners, ceilings, etc.

  4. Love that you can keep all the attachments in one caddy-I am always looking for them. Great idea. Looks like a wonderful vacuum-I will be looking into it for our household.

  5. Great, helpful review! We’re hoping to have some floors refinished next year and this looks like the perfect vacuum. It looks easier to handle and store. Very powerful too!

  6. Thank you for such a great review Rosey! I have never heard of this brand before but was very impressed with your review. I would definitely consider purchasing this vacuum cleaner. I also have a cordless Shark vacuum for quick pick-ups but when that malfunctions(fingers crossed not soon), I would consider the Simplicity S65 cordless vacuum to be a wonderful replacement.
