Avoid Credit Card Fraud With This One Tip!

I love to shop on line.  I do the majority of my shopping on the internet and have always been concerned about credit card fraud.  Crooks can do major damage with your credit card numbers even before you get the first hint that you have been hacked.

Over the years our credit cards have been compromised and I have had to shut them down (don’t take chances just reporting them – insist that your bank shuts them down and issues you a new card).

Setting up “alerts” with your credit card company is very helpful and can alert you within seconds of any unauthorized charges against your account.  I have the set up for both of our major credit cards.

However I have found a way to keep the crooks from tapping into my credit cards and therefore avoiding the stress of worrying about when the next time my cards will be compromised.

Some credit card companies can issue you a “temporary” credit card number to use for uncertain purchases.  Uncertain meaning a company on the net that you have never dealt with before on one that does not have a stellar reputation.

Unfortunately for me my major credit card company does not offer this “temporary” credit card feature so I had to come up with another way to keep my information safe.

There are companies such as Green Dot who issue pre-paid credit cards that you can load in advance and use like a disposable card but for me that wasn’t an option as I didn’t want to maintain a certain balance nor pay the fees that they charge.

After speaking with the teller at my bank she recommended that I purchase a pre-paid debit for such purchases.  These cards work just like a credit card and work for such questionable purchases.

Load the card with a specific amount of money and use it just like any other credit card.  I have been doing this for over a year now and it has worked out just fine.

I don’t worry about my info being compromised and if something should happen where you do suspect fraud all you have to do is call the number on the back of the card and you will be connected to a friendly customer service representative that will help you with any issues you may have.

So if you absolutely have to have that leather jacket you saw on the web from that no so recognizable website this is the perfect solution.

These cards work just like any other credit card and you do have recourse if something goes wrong and you never receive your merchandise.  Just file a dispute with the issuing bank and you will get the same protection just like you would with your regular credit cards.

My bank uses a VISA debit card but other banks may issue you a Master Card or other major company debit card either way they all work the same.

PS – don’t let those small balances on these cards slip away.  I recently learned that my bank will issue a refund if you call them and ask for it.  I had three cards with balances under $5.00 that I just couldn’t use and before I lost the money on each I called and asked what could be done.  The customer service rep informed me that the three balances could be combined and deposited back into my checking account in about 14 days.  Worked great for me.

PSS – be sure to read the fine print or at least ask at your issuing back if there is a “maintenance” fee assessed if you do not use the card within a certain period of time.  My bank does not charge a maintenance fee but some do if there is no activity on the card for a certain period of time.

For the past few years I have been experiencing a multitude of medical issues which all started when I was diagnosed in 2016 with a clotting disorder called Factor Five.  I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis and see a Rheumatologist on a regular basis for these two conditions.  I take prescription medication to help with the debilitating pain and often use Salonpas Pain Relief Patches to get me through the day.  Some days are very difficult for me and I just want to stay in bed but I push myself to get up and get moving because if not it will be much worse.  I’ve  tried holistic methods to help with the pain but nothing worked so my only other option was prescription medications.

Believe me, I’m not a happy camper! I don’t want to take prescription drugs as they have so many side effects, some very scary, but when you have to decide whether to say in bed and feel sorry for yourself or get relief, you do what you have to do to survive.

May is National Arthritis Awareness Month, and in the United States, 23% of all adults—over 54 million people—have arthritis.

On February 14, 2020 the Food and Drug administration approved Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel (previously you needed a prescription for this gel) for over the counter sales.  I have been prescribed Voltaren Pain Gel by my doctor, however, it can take up to seven (7) days to see any improvement. So on the days when the pain is so bad and the Voltaren is just not working fast enough I turn to Salonpas Pain Relief Patches to get me through the day.

Voltaren can only be used on six (6) joints and has not been proven effective for any other pains such as back aches or muscle strains.

“The good news is if you are an arthritis sufferer and want fast and effective relief, there are other topical options,” says Dr. Bob Arnot including “Salonpas Pain Relief Patch Large which is a great choice for fast, effective arthritis relief.”

Checkout this video from Dr. Bob Arnot with pain relief suggestions for living with Arthritis.

Salonpas Pain Relief Patches now come in a LARGE size to cover a larger area at one time – no more putting on multiple patches (like me) to cover a larger area.  These Salonpas LARGE patches are great for your lower back, shoulder, thigh, calf and anywhere on your body that needs some relief from pain. They are easy to apply and work up to 12 consecutive hours.

Whether you suffer from Arthritis pain like I do or you managed to pull or strained a muscle, Salonpas Pain Relief Patches or other Salonpas products can help relieve that pain and help you get through the day.

Salonpas products can be purchased through Amazon (which is the best price I have found) – see the entire line of Salonpas products here!

Do you know all the health benefits of Macha Tea?

While watching the Dr. Oz show one day I was enlightened about all the health benefits of drinking Macha Tea.  I had heard about the tea before but never really paid much attention to it until now.  Try to invest in an “organic matcha” to avoid destroying any of the health benefits from the chemical pesticides that other teas are sprayed with during the growing process.  It’s such a small investment to improve your health so give it a try.  I am going to order today.  I found a few brands that have great reviews (below) so just click on the brand and it will take you right to place your order.

You may also want to invest in a Matcha Tea wisk it is necessary to get the best result from your loose tea. See below for inexpensive ones you can purchase.

Here are the health benefits that Matcha Tea is supposed to provide:

1. High in Antioxidants
2. Loaded with Catechin, EGCg
3. Enhances Calm (boy do I need this)
4. Boosts Memory and Concentration (boy do I need this too)
5. Increases Energy Levels and Endurance
6. Burns Calories
7. Detoxifies the Body
8. Fortifies the Immune System
9. Improves Cholesterol

How to make Matcha Tea in a cup! (Watch this video)

STEP ONE: Heat spring or filtered water to 175-180 degrees this is important you don’t want the water too too hot.
STEP TWO: Add a few drops of hot water to matcha powder and mix into paste with a matcha wisk.
STEP THREE: Add more hot water to paste mixture and stir. Try 1 teaspoon to 6 ounces of water. Adjust measurement to suit taste.
STEP FOUR: Matcha is ready to drink

25 Tricks to keep food fresh longer!

This is an excerpt from the Farmers Almanac with 25 suggestions on how to keep your food fresh longer.

  1. Chop dry green onions and store them in a clean, dry plastic water bottle. Then store them in the freezer and simply sprinkle out when needed.
  2. Store potatoes away from onions which makes them spoil faster.  Store potatoes with apples instead to keep them from sprouting.
  3. Slip onions into a pantyhose for storage.  Tie a knot in between each onion to separate them.  This can help keep them for up to eight months.
  4. Avoid storing mushrooms in plastic, which can trap moisture causing them to spoil faster.  Instead, store them in a paper bag or cardboard box in either a cool dry place or in the refrigerator.
  5. The main culprit to wilting salad greens is moisture.  Store salad greens in a bowl, place a paper towel on top to help absorb moisture and cover or toss a paper towel in the produce bag.  Also, put that salad spinner to good use to help absorb excess water after washing.
  6. Wrap broccoli, lettuce, and celery in foil before storing them in the fridge.
  7. Store tomatoes at room temperature out of direct sunlight with the stem side down.  Storing them in plastic makes them spoil faster.
  8. Store root vegetables, such as carrots, beets, rutabagas, parsnips, and turnips in a pot filled with sand.  Store the pot in a cool, dark area and take them out as you need them.
  9. Allow bunches of herbs, such as basil, cilantro, and chives to air dry when you get home from the market, then spread them out on dry paper towels, and roll them up. Place them back in the bag, and refrigerate.
  10. Oilier herbs, such as thyme, rosemary, and sage should be tied together and hung in order to get air.  Try hanging them in your pantry or on your kitchen wall for a little fresh, fragrant decoration.

Protect yourself against identity theft – it’s free!

I highly recommend you invest in a book by Clark Howard – the consumer advice guru. The book is called Clark Howard’s Living Large in Lean Times: 250+ Ways to Buy Smarter, Spend Smarter, and Save Money. It’s packed with money saving tips and suggestions on everything from how to get a discount on prescription drugs to student loans.

My absolute favorite tip is Credit Freeze! Did you know you can freeze your credit reports with each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) to safeguard you from identity theft?

Crooks are getting smarter and smarter every day. The latest scheme (which send chills down my spine) is “House Stealing”. See this article in the FBI archives on how easy it is for scammers to take control of your home.

Clark’s answer to this and other nightmare identity theft schemes is to “freeze your credit” and it is free. It’s not necessary to pay a monthly monitoring system to protect your personal information, all you have to do is freeze your credit.  The only drawback (which in my opinion is a small inconvenience) is you must contact the credit agency (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) to unfreeze your credit if you are applying for a loan, credit card, or believe it or not car insurance.

The process of “freezing your credit” is simple and can even be done on the internet at each of the reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) websites. You will be asked to create a PIN that only you know, therefore safeguarding your credit and identity. When you wish to open a new line of credit, apply for a credit card or car loan, etc., you just contact the credit bureau and temporarily unfreeze your account.

We have frozen our credit (my husband and I) and feel much better knowing no one can access our social security numbers or credit report.  We have even suggested that my son freeze his infant son’s information. It’s a small investment of your time to keep your identity safe.

It would cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars to undo the damage from identity theft. I know lawyers who fell victim and the damage not only cost them dearly to rectify, it took them years to get out from under the damage.

Clark Howard has several very informative books out you can find them all here!  Well worth the investment.
