As many of you know I’ve had lots of medical challenges for the past 4 or 5 years now. These medical conditions were something I had no control over, they were conditions that I was not even aware of that existed in my family’s medical history. Because of the sedentary lifestyle and these medical conditions that I have had to battle I’ve managed to pack on 40 (yes 40) pounds. At my age not only is it unhealthy but it’s not attractive. When I look in the mirror I want to cry and ask “What happened to that tall slender girl I used to be?” I am 5 feet 7 inches tall and people will say to me “but you’re tall you can carry the extra weight!” to which I say no thank you I don’t feel well at this weight. I weigh more now than when I was 9 months pregnant with my son. So I decided enough was enough and I was going to not only get this weight off but take better care of myself from this day forward. I want to be around to see my new grandbaby graduate from high school, college, and get married and have his own children God willing, but at this rate I won’t.
Many of you know not only of my blog but the many hours a week I dedicate to my charities. I started and run a foundation that provides financial aid to children who cannot afford private music instruction; I work with the local battered women’s shelter, and combined with the blog work I can sit up to 15 hours a day. I try to take breaks but that doesn’t always happen as I get busy with a project and I just don’t want to stop. The same can be said for my eating habits. Taking time to prepare a proper meal for myself never happens. I just grab anything I can find in my kitchen (which is never anything healthy) and eat it while I work at my computer.
So when I decided that I was going to take charge of my eating habits and lose this excess weight I started doing some research about prepared meal delivery plans and I came across Eatology. Eatology Kitchen Studios, specializes in preparing healthy entrees that taste like “cheat meals.” These dishes replicate the foods that people miss most when cleaning up their diets, making clean eating easy to stick with! Using fresh, whole-food ingredients, they turn out some killer Paleo-Zone meals…like Puerto Rican Lasagna, Chili Cheese Fries and Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake. All menu options are “Clean Eating Friendly” and can accommodate specific needs like Paleo, Whole30, Vegetarian, Zone etc. All meals are Gluten / Hormone / Preservative-Free, No Added Sugars and Low Sodium.
Now you might say these meal delivery plans are all alike and I am here to tell you that is the furthest thing from the truth – they are not all alike. I did the research and found that most use tons of artificial additives and preservatives to get that food to you so it won’t spoil. Eatology does not use any artificial additives or preservatives, its good clean (delicious) fresh food that is convenient and will keep you on the straight and narrow to achieve your goal of losing weight. Eatology prepares your meals in house, with a small group of employees, and that really appealed to me. Knowing my food was not going through the “factory” process on an assembly line by robots was something that I really appreciated. They will work with you to customize a Paleo or Zone approved meal plan that consists of 3 meals per day per week or a total of 21 prepared cooked and flash frozen meals. Your meals will come packaged in dry ice and will be delivered right to your door. All you have to do is unpack the box, put them into your freezer and use them – what could be easier? You can go onto their website and chose your own meals from the list of what is available or you can just go on auto-ship and an assortment of meals will be chosen for you and shipped out once a week to keep you supplied with approved meals.
You will be assigned a coach that will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have but the plan is pretty straight forward. You need to eat 5 times a day, 3 meals and 2 snacks and drink lots of water. I know for some people that is difficult but for me it is not because I do my best to drink plenty of water all day long. Putting a piece of lemon, lime or even a slice of orange into your water, that might help you to get that water into your daily diet if you are not a water drinker.
A few years ago I partnered with a well known company and did a review of their frozen meals. The food was very good but I found myself hungry all day long as it wasn’t enough food to satisfy me. It was very small portions (as most of them are) and I just needed more food to keep me from feeling hungry and getting horrible headaches. Unfortunately the weight that I lost in the first two weeks came off due to starvation which is not the best way to lose weight. We all know that as soon as you go back to eating your regular intake of calories you will gain all that weight right back.
So this morning I had my first Paleo Eatology meal for breakfast – it was called “Banana Nut Bread” which was scrumptious. It was three large pieces of Eatology’s version of Banana Nut Bread and a side of sweet potato fries. The ingredients may surprise you as they did me but I’m telling you this meal was so delicious I didn’t miss the sugar. The ingredients are Turkey (yes I was shocked as you cannot taste it at all), egg whites, banana, apple, sweet potato, applesauce, pecan, honey, agave, apple juice, vanilla, baking powder, baking soda, tapioca flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, allspice and salt. It was more than enough to keep me from getting hungry until snack time (3-4 hours after my breakfast) so I actually saved the last portion for my snack.
You will see my lunch in the video above. I chose Tropical Coconut Burgers with Carrot Fries and Beets by Dre (LOL how funny). It was also more than enough to fill me up so I saved the last burger for my afternoon snack.
All of the ingredients are clearly marked on each meal so that you can see exactly what is in your food. No mystery ingredients.
There are three possible meal plan options you can choose with Eatology. There is a B2 and B3 or the Family Meal Plan option available to purchase. You can read all about the different options on Eatology’s website at www.eatology.co
If you are struggling to lose weight I urge you to go to their website and read about their dedication to helping you lose that excess weight. This plan is great for anyone who has sugar issues such as diabetes and hypoglycemia. However we urge you to consult your physician before you start any diet or meal plan service. Show your physician and I am certain he will approve 100% with Eatology’s meal plan service. Checking out the website may pay off in the end of my journey (hint, hint) with a special surprise offer from the folks at Eatology for my followers. www.eatology.co

That being said I hope you will come along with me and watch my progress for the next few weeks. I am hopefully that my journey will inspire many of you to do the same.
Today I weight myself (it’s not pretty) and I will tell you what I’ve lost at the end of each week.
In closing I’d just like to give a huge shout out to Laurah at Eatology for being so kind and caring. She really does want me to succeed.
